Russia Allows Oracle to Buy Sun Microsystems

Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia allowed the software vendor Oracle buy Sun Microsystems in the transaction, whose value reaches up to $ 7 billion, the regulator said on Friday. 

"FAS of Russia considered the request of the company ... and, has decided to grant this request," - said in a statement.FAS said that gives permission provided that Oracle will continue to develop MySQL database of Sun.

China may try to block the deal.  

In January 2010 Oracle acquired the permission of the European Union to buy Sun. Merging the two companies reformats the market of high technologies, allowing the second-largest producer of software in the world  to enter the sector of computer equipment. 

Sun is the biggest player in the $ 17-billion market of high-performance servers, where it competes with IBM and Hewlett-Packard Co.

In December, Oracle officially promised to consider the interests of users in the development of free database management system MySQL, increase investment in their development and create an independent board of visitors of MySQL.
