Iridium Double Life in Russia

Specialists of the expert group under the Government of Russia offer to create a national satellite operator based on satellite communication system Iridium.

Russian party in this case should enter into Russian subsidiary of Iridium. And the latter shall  stop "illegal provision of services", concluded the experts. 

On March 19 there will be an experts meeting under the Government Commission on the Federal Communications and Information Technology on activity of the foreign systems of mobile personal communications by satellite Orbcomm, Thuraya and Iridium in compliance with existing regulatory acts .  

In a research note prepared for the meeting there are identified four satellite systems:  the U.S. Iridium and Globalstar, Russian Gonets and the Arab Thuraya. 

Experts called Iridium providing satellite coverage throughout Russia the first option.
