German Wintershall May Enter the "South Stream"

Chief executive of Italian oil company ENI, Paolo Scaroni expressed the assumption that the German company Wintershall, which is an oil and gas structure of BASF will join the South Stream project.

"I think this company is considering joining the South Stream project. I am  not in contact with its leaders, but if
they are considering something like that, I would not be surprised "- Paolo Scaroni said in an interview to Reuters

On September 20, a source familiar with the negotiations, said that Gazprom is already about half a year discussing with Wintershall participation in gas pipeline project South Stream.

Currently, Wintershall with Gazprom is implementing the project "Nord Stream" in which the German company owns a 20 percent stake.

Gas pipeline project South Stream, across the Black Sea in the South and Central Europe, Gazprom is implementing jointly with the Italian concern ENI and the French Electricite de France (EdF).

On June 19, 2010 they signed a tripartite memorandum between Gazprom, ENI, and EDF, which defines the specific steps for
the French company entering  South Stream. The document stipulates that the occurrence of the EDF will be carried out before the end of 2010 by reducing the share of ENI in a joint project company. The share of EDF will be at least 10%, the share of Gazprom - 50%.
