On July 30, 2010, the center for maintenance and repair of regional aviation airplanes was opened in Ekaterinburg. The Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK), together with Aircraft Industries, a Czech aircraft building company (UGMK is a majority shareholder), has chosen Uktus airport for their joint project.
During the first stage, the service center will take care about L-410 UVP-E20 and Pilatus PC-12 airplanes manufactured by Aircraft Industries. In the future, the center will also service helicopters.
The UGMK Press-Service informed that the acquisition of the equipment and the construction of the storage facility cost 750 thousand euro. Spare parts will be supplied to the companies that operate both present-day L-410s and the airplanes of the previous generations. In future, UGMK and Aircraft Industries intend to create the network of service centers in Russia.
In summer 2009, the L-410 aircraft in the UVP-E20 modification was certified by the International Aviation Committee for operation in Russia. At the MAX-2009 air show, Aircraft Industries signed several contracts for delivery of these airplanes to Russian carriers.
In 2010, two L-410s were delivered to Bashkortostan, which is reviving enthusiastically its regional aviation. The Czech company also won the tender for the delivery of one aircraft to Kamchatka and is performing negotiations with the Yakutia government.
